A 40-year-old Winkler man has died after a three-vehicle collision in Reinfeld on Thursday night.

Pembina Valley RCMP responded to the crash at 8:15 p.m., finding local firefighters already on scene with three damaged vehicles blocking the road.

Officers learned all three vehicles were headed westbound on Highway 14 when the lead vehicle slowed to turn south onto Reinfeld Street North. The second vehicle also slowed, but the third vehicle collided with its rear, propelling it into the first vehicle.

The second vehicle involved was severely damaged in both the front and rear. The 40-year-old Winkler driver was transported to hospital via air ambulance to Winnipeg, where he later died of his injuries.

The driver of the third vehicle, a 41-year-old man from the RM of Stanley, was taken to hospital as a precaution. The driver of the lead vehicle, an 18-year-old Plum Coulee woman, wasn’t injured.

RCMP continue to investigate.
