Plowing on major routes is in full force after about five centimetres of snow fell on Winnipeg overnight and into this morning.

The city began plowing at 8 a.m. and will be sanding streets and sidewalks as part of the cleanup.

Priority 1 streets will be plowed, including bus routes and collector streets. Crews are focusing on areas with high drifts first due to strong winds.

Residential streets are being assessed to determine if plowing is required.

Approximately 150 pieces of equipment will be deployed at a cost of about $500,000.
