Three-Day Radiothon to Bring in Donations for Cheer Board

December 8, 2011 8:21 AM | News

Two Winnipeg radio stations began a three-day radiothon at St. Vital Centre today in support of the Christmas Cheer Board.

FAB 94.3 and 99.9 BOB FM will be broadcasting from the food hall until Saturday as part of the 29th Annual Christmas Miracle Toy and Cash Drive.

The public can bring down a new, unwrapped toy or cash donation to the mall to help lift the spirits of the city’s less fortunate this holiday season.

“The need for Christmas Hampers does not appear to be getting smaller,” said Kai Madsen, executive director of the Christmas Cheer Board. “This year we expect to distribute slightly more than the 19,502 sent out last year.”

Winnipeggers donated $60,000 and more than 5,500 toys during last year’s Christmas Miracle.

FAB and BOB will be live on location until 10 p.m. tonight, Friday from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Fans attending Friday’s Winnipeg Jets game can also make a toy or cash donation at any MTS Centre entrance and be entered to win an autographed Andrew Ladd jersey. The winner will be announced by the end of the game.

On Saturday, Winnipeg Jets Tobias Enstrom and Derek Meech will be supporting the Christmas Miracle from 12 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. The two defencemen will be signing autographs at the new Jets Gear Store, located at the London Drugs entrance of the mall.
