An annual fundraising party for the Winnipeg Art Gallery is taking a different approach next year, inspired by a favourite pastime of many Canadians in the winter — skiing.

The newest instalment for 2012 will be Birchwood BMW Art & Soul: Après Ski. The event on February 25 will have the feeling of international ski culture, as guests enjoy glamourous fireside experiences, an opulent piano bar, prestigious ski fashions, BMW luxury SUV exhibits, and panoramic scenes inspired by Big White, the Swiss Alps, Austria’s Kitzbuhel, Lake Louise, Aspen, and Mont Tremblanc

“It promotes local artistic passion and talent while also providing a chance for everyone to unleash their inner winter spirit,” said Lindy Norris, the event’s co-chair. “We expect Après Ski to inspire a wide variety of attire, from French black tie to Whistler’s professional ski teams, traditional Dirndl and Lederhosen to haute Italian ski fashion, vintage neon snowsuits from Sunshine to Vermont’s ski patrol, lavish fur coats to Banff’s ski bunnies, and more.”

Tickets are $50 each (or 10 for $450) and go on sale online January 3. Art & Soul runs from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.
