Delta Hotels and Resorts has launched what they’re calling the fastest Internet service of any hotel chain in the country.
InternetXL is available at 17 of the chain’s properties, including at the Delta Winnipeg. The speed is said to be 20 times faster than any household high speed broadband currently offered.
Delta cited a recent survey in Sandvine’s Global Internet Phenomena Report that stated web browsing dropped 39% in a 12-month period, as guests preferred real-time entertainment, such as Netflix and YouTube, which grew by almost 50%. The bandwidth-heavy activities, including an increased use of Skype, led Delta to adopt higher speeds.
A spokesperson for Delta said in an e-mail guests will be able to download a 10 GB HD movie in 14 minutes and upload a 100 MB file in 8.4 seconds.
The InternetXL service will be offered free for a limited time.
