The lineup for the 2012 Winnipeg International Jazz Festival was released on Friday, featuring a slew of performing acts who will hone their talent June 14-23 in downtown Winnipeg.
R&B singer Janelle Monae, jazz master Ramsey Lewis, and indie icons The Hold Steady will be just a handful of acts performing during the Theatre Series.
The Club Series will see such acts as The Heavyweights Brass Band, one of the hottest bands on Toronto’s jazz scene, and Montreal quartet Donato-Bourassa-Lozano-Tanguay, who will perform a tribute to Bill Evans. Rising star Vijay Iyer and his trio are also on the schedule.
Opening weekend will kick off June 14-17, with free music in the Exchange District. Thursday has rhythm, blues and jazz, while Friday highlights Latin jazz. Saturday features some of Winnipeg’s most popular indie rock talent and Sunday will bring the funk with the return of Moses Mayes, as well as The Noble Thiefs and SoulStation.
Tickets are available at JazzWinnipeg.com, by phone at (204) 989-4656 and at the Jazz Winnipeg office at 007-100 Arthur Street.
