Local Elementary Students Supporting Movember

November 14, 2012 11:40 AM | News

Students at George Waters Middle School were thanked by local organizers of the Movember campaign for their support on Wednesday.

Students and staff have been participating in “Movember Mondays,” where a minimum donation of 25 cents provides students with a sticker showing their support. They also have the opportunity to purchase moustaches for either 50 cents or $1 each. More than $100 has been raised so far for the men’s health initiative.

“Some male staff grew moustaches for Movember in 2010 and thought it would be fun to have the kids get involved in our moustache adventure,” said Carmen Bonnici, teacher and Movember participant.

The month-long fundraiser and awareness campaign raised $125 million worldwide in 2011.

“You don’t need to be a man growing a moustache to get involved in Movember and make a difference, and George Waters Middle School is a tremendous example of this,” said Jeff Palson, Movember Winnipeg co-chair.
