If you’re lucky enough to get Monday off to celebrate Louis Riel Day, The Forks is the place to be.

The fifth annual Snow Jam urban snowboard competition is happening, bringing out the province’s most elite snowboarders. The day will begin with the open competition, followed by a game of S.N.O.W., similar to H.O.R.S.E. for basketball, where athletes copycat the previous rider’s tricks each round building on the last.

“We are excited to see what tricks the snowboarders pull out this year with the hill’s new location,” said Paul Jordan, chief operating officer of The Forks. “This is definitely a spectator worthy event, we encourage visitors to The Forks that day to stop by the hill and check out the action.”

Registration and open practice will be from 9 a.m. until noon. The open competition’s registration fee is $15 and the fee for S.N.O.W. is $10. Riders are welcome to enter into one or both categories.
