Manitoba coaches were honoured on Sunday for their achievements in sport, leadership, personal development and coaching effectiveness.
Awards were doled out at the 2013 Coaching Manitoba Excellence Awards presented by Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries.
“Coaches play an integral part of the amateur sport system while making a valuable contribution to the community,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, president and CEO of Sport Manitoba. “They serve as role models and teachers for our youth, and their efforts are worthy of honour and recognition.”
This year’s award winners are:
Sheena Reed, artistic gymnastics — Flin Flon
Vince Leah Memorial Award (Active Start/Fundamentals Category)
Jaret Ditter, soccer — Winnipeg
Dr. Jack Hunt Memorial Award (Learn to Train/Train to Train Category)
Garth Pischke, volleyball — Winnipeg
Peter Williamson Memorial Award (Train to Compete/Train to Win Category)
Phil Penner, basketball — Winnipeg
Peter Dick Award (School System Category)
The Manitoba Aboriginal Sport and Recreation Council recognized Kelly Chinchilla (basketball) and Gavin Young (football) with the 2012 Manitoba Aboriginal Coaching Award.
