Canada Games Sport for Life Centre Holding Free Open House

Sport Manitoba is inviting the public into the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre for a free open house event this weekend.

Game Day will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, offering free fitness classes and the chance for kids to try 17 interactive sports.

KidSport Winnipeg has formed a partnership with St. Louis Blues forward Alexander Steen.

The Winnipeg-born NHL star was in the city Saturday to announce the working relationship along with Great Big Adventure.

Steen is the owner of the 12,000-square-foot family entertainment centre, which opened in 2013.

Feds Spending $3M on Canada Games Sport for Life Centre

WINNIPEG — Ottawa is providing up to $10.35 million over three years to the 2017 Canada Games host society.

A new training facility in Winnipeg will see $3 million from the fund for the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre.

“We’re pleased to see the federal government’s continuing support for the Canada Games and commitment to funding sport and athlete development,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, president and CEO of the 2017 Canada Games Host Society.

Sport for Life Centre Receives Qualico Contribution

Sport ManitobaWINNIPEG– Sport Manitoba has received a contribution from Qualico to help build a new training centre.

Known as the Qualico Training Centre, the 120,000-square-foot addition to the Canada Games Sport for Life Centre is a key legacy project for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.

“We are tremendously grateful for Qualico’s support of our capital campaign,” said Paul Robson, the campaign’s co-chair. “Qualico’s generosity will create significant lasting impacts as we continue to positively build our communities and neighborhoods through sport. While our private capital campaign has been successful, additional support is still required.”

Sport Manitoba Creates Athlete Development Position in Brandon

Sport ManitobaSport Manitoba has hired a new coach/athlete development coordinator for rural Manitoba.

Brittany Bruinooge, a kinesiology graduate from the University of Manitoba, will be stationed in Brandon.

Bruinooge is a certified athletic therapist and CSEP personal trainer.

“We undertook a significant review of the services and programs we were delivering in Rural Manitoba and we discovered a real need for the support this new coach/athlete development coordinator position will provide,” said Jeff Hnatiuk, president and CEO Sport Manitoba.
