Winnipeg Boy Trapped in Snowbank Dies in Hospital

January 19, 2014 7:44 PM | News

A nine-year-old boy who became trapped underneath a snowbank on Wednesday has died.

Neighbours confirm to ChrisD.ca that the boy passed away on Saturday in hospital. He had been listed in critical condition at the time.

The boy was playing in the front yard of his Fort Richmond home on Wednesday evening when he was buried by snow. It’s believed he was building a fort or tunnelling when the snow collapsed on top of him.

The boy’s mother — with the help of neighbours — frantically tried to free the boy and dig him out. CPR was performed before he was rushed to hospital.

Neighbours did not identify the family, but said they had recently moved to Canada.
