Seven women from across the province are being recognized by Sport Manitoba with grants from their Women to Watch Grant Program.
Working with provincial sports organizations, Sport Manitoba provides monthly grants of $500 to female athletes to help them continue their career in sport. Grants are also presented to female coaches to assist them in honing their coaching skills and help them attain a higher level of coaching or increased level of coaching experience.
The most recent athletes to receive the grants include Alisha Kaegi of Balmoral, MB (for judo and wrestling), Olivia Thorleifson of Manitou, MB (for softball), and Winnipeg’s Caitlin McDonald (for hockey) and Jane MacDougall (for swimming).
Coaches Leela Braun of Winnipeg (speed skating), and Brandon’s Lori Henderson (artistic gymnastics) and Megan Svistorski (figure skating) were also awarded grants.
