March 1, 2014 8:31 AM CDT | Sports

University of Manitoba BisonsThe Manitoba Bison women’s volleyball team inched closer to a CIS National Championship on Friday after defeating the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees out west.

The Bisons are in Regina this weekend for the 2014 women’s volleyball championship, where they defeated Ottawa 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-16), guaranteeing themselves a spot in the semi-final against Dalhousie this evening in a semi-final match.

“We were steady and pleased with our overall performance,” said head coach Ken Bentley. “The second set was critical. We did not panic and were composed plus did a real nice job to come back. Dalhousie plays solid and they fight and we have to be ready to play them in the semis.”

The winner of tonight’s match (6 p.m. CT) goes on to play in the championship final.

Games are being streamed live on CIS-SIC.tv.
