A simple click of your seatbelt could save your life.
That’s the message from Manitoba RCMP as they reiterate the importance of using a seatbelt while in a moving vehicle.
Over the last three years, 44% of those that died in crashes were confirmed to have not been wearing a seatbelt.
“We can present all the stats we want and show all the proof that seatbelts work, but ultimately, it comes down to making the smart choice,” said Sgt. Larry Dalman of RCMP Traffic Services. “When I think about the scenes I have responded to and the people who could have walked away from those crashes had they been wearing a seatbelt, it is tragic.”
RCMP say a common misconception is that airbags and safety features in newer model vehicles will make up for being unbuckled.
Under the Highway Traffic Act, the fine for failing to wear a seatbelt is $292.
