The Winnipeg Fringe Theatre Festival opened up with a strong weekend despite some gloomy weather.
Organizers say the clouds and rain didn’t deter theatregoers from visiting Old Market Square and other venues downtown.
Officials reported a total of 60 sellout shows and 36,949 tickets sold to 573 performances by the end of day Sunday.
“We’re very much looking forward to the second half of the festival, and hope to see Winnipeggers and Fringers come out en masse,” said executive producer Chuck McEwen. “There’s still tons of amazing performances to see and great entertainment all week long on the Outdoor Stage in Old Market Square.”
The Fringe Festival runs until July 24. For a complete schedule, visit WinnipegFringe.com.
