Some Winnipeg children will get a VIP escort today while shopping for Christmas gifts at St. Vital Centre.

The 10th annual CopShop event pairs students with Winnipeg police officers for a morning of retail therapy. Students are chosen by administrators of their respective school divisions based on a need, specific academic or sporting achievements and volunteerism.

“We are proud to give back to the community we serve by taking part in CopShop,” said Patrol Sergeant Stacy Wytinck. “This partnership fosters community relations by allowing our youth to interact with officers in a meaningful way.”

The opportunity will provide 60 students with a chance to connect positively with officers and help youths to foster life-long relations with law enforcement and their community.

St. Vital Centre is donating $200 to each student to spend during the two-hour shopping spree. A pizza lunch will follow and students will be given a gift bag with items donated by merchants of the mall.
