More than $90,000 raised in last year’s CEO Sleepout is being divided among three community organizations in the fight to end homelessness.
Siloam Mission, the Red Road Lodge and Union Gospel Mission were announced as funding recipients on Tuesday.
Over 150 leaders from the private and public sector slept outdoors outside the RBC Convention Centre last fall in the event, organized by the Downtown Winnipeg BIZ.
“Not only are we making a difference in the lives of these individuals by providing them with employment and quality-of-life supports, but we are also encouraging our city’s prominent CEOs and community leaders to look at the world differently and providing them with the chance to see the influence they can have in the lives of those less fortunate,” said BIZ CEO Stefano Grande.
Close to $1 million has been raised since the event debuted in 2011. Such funding has also resulted in the employment of 137 people experiencing homelessness for more than 81,000 hours — with many of these individuals returning to school or finding permanent full-time work.
