When the lights go down, the Downtown Night Market will take over downtown Winnipeg streets.

The Downtown Winnipeg BIZ is leading the first-of-its-kind on the Graham Mall.

“In cities that have a vibrant downtown, there is a critical mass of people and that provides confidence to those who might not otherwise venture downtown,” Downtown Winnipeg BIZ CEO Stefano Grande.

“We’ve seen growing pockets of activity in our downtown and this type of event helps link them together by filling the sidewalks with people all out to enjoy the evening together.”

The BIZ used the recent Winnipeg Jets playoff run as an example of Winnipeggers taking back the streets at night.

The market will be located around Graham Mall between Kennedy Street and Edmonton Street with many vendors set up behind Hydro Place. The Night Market takes place the last Friday of June, July and August.

Vendors will be selling their wares from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Other activities include Instagram Alley — providing a backdrop for the perfect social media shot, giant chess games, balloon artists, live painting on Kennedy from 7-8 p.m., family-friendly beer and wine garden, and live entertainment from Ila Barker, Lana Winterhalt and Phil Natividad.
