WINNIPEG — A woman was stabbed in the arm with a needle at St. Vital Centre on Wednesday evening.
Police say the victim reported the unprovoked attack at around 7:30 p.m. and the female suspect had fled.
Officers, with the help of mall security, were able to locate the suspect in another part of the mall and arrest her. Police seized 1.10 grams of methamphetamine, a number of syringes, stolen merchandise and identification in the name of another female.
The victim received medical treatment in hospital.
Police say it appears the victim and suspect — who weren’t known to each other — were in the same store when the assault occurred. The victim was stabbed with a hypodermic needle with a syringe containing a fluid thought to contain a destructive or noxious substance. The suspect then fled the store with stolen items causing a security sensor to activate an audible alarm.
Jessie Kayla Genaille of Winnipeg, 30, faces numerous charges, including two counts of failing to comply with a probation order. She remains in custody.
