WINNIPEG — Two winning bench designs have been chosen after more than 100 submissions in an international design competition.

Benchmark 2019 has selected Wall Chair by a Chinese design team and Seesaw out of Brooklyn, New York.

“This year’s Benchmark reached a new level. One hundred and four submissions from 21 different countries ,” said Anders Swanson, executive director of the Winnipeg Trails Association.

The benches will be placed at two locations along The Great Trail in Winnipeg.

“I love how the winning installations “rethink the bench” and raise issues of placemaking we often forget about: seeing through the eyes of a child again or the calm when you escape from the wind.”

The benches will be unveiled at a public ceremony in June 2019.
