Players from the Manitoba Moose will pay Assiniboine Park Zoo a visit on Sunday to make a cheque presentation.
The Moose will donate $4,507.41 — the sum raised from the auction of polar bear-themed jerseys worn last season on February 10. The funds raised support the Assiniboine Park Conservancy’s Polar Bear Rescue Team.
“The Manitoba Moose have been very generous with their support of Assiniboine Park Zoo over the years and we are grateful to accept this donation, which will support our ongoing polar bear rescue and conservation efforts and the continued care of these incredible animals at the zoo,” said Grant Furniss, senior director of animal care and conservation.
Moose Captain Peter Stoykewych, as well as alternate captains JC Lipon and Cameron Schilling, will participate in the cheque presentation in the Gateway to the Arctic building.
Following the event, players will be available to sign autographs, take photos and meet fans. Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in a special scavenger hunt where they can collect stamps from Moose players for a chance to be entered in a draw for an autographed Manitoba Moose jersey and tickets to a Manitoba Moose game.
The zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Moose will be in attendance between 1:15 p.m. and 3 p.m.
