Winnipeg Police Logo CrestA door-to-door salesperson for a telecommunications company was threatened with a gun after visiting a Winnipeg home last Friday.

Police say the sales rep was in the 400 block of Collegiate Street at around 8:25 p.m. when an upset man answered the door. The salesperson attempted to leave, but was followed to the street and a confrontation began.

Police say the agitated homeowner went back inside to get a gun and then returned to the street. He got into a vehicle and attempted to follow the salesperson, who was able to hide into another household.

Officers arrived at the original home at around 8:40 p.m., but the man refused to exit. After a nearly three-hour standoff, the tactical support team was able to take the suspect into custody.

Donald Bruce Elliott of Winnipeg, 51, has been charged with several firearms-related offences. Officers also seized 12 guns along with ammunition.

Elliott remains in custody.
