Manitoba RCMP rescued a family of three and their two dogs from Clearwater Lake last Friday after their boat’s power and propulsion failed.

The Pas RCMP received the distress call at around 10 p.m. on August 2, reporting that the boaters, who were stranded for over three hours, were adrift in the dark near Camper’s Cove boat launch, two kilometres from shore.

The boaters, from Mitchell, Manitoba, faced deteriorating conditions with increasing winds and waves. They were unaware of their drifting direction without any light to guide them.

A rescue team of three RCMP officers braved three- to four-foot waves to locate the stranded family, including an infant. A blinking light helped the team find the boat, which was drifting close to a reef. The officers secured the boat, and towed it back to shore. All three people were physically uninjured.
