WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government is expanding funding for the province’s security rebate program to $2 million.
The $1.5 million increase was announced on Thursday due to high demand from residents and businesses.
“After seeing such high interest from Manitobans, our government is increasing the total amount of funding for security rebates so that more homeowners, renters and small business owners can save money on security measures such as cameras, lights and other products designed to help keep properties safe,” said Justice Minister Matt Wiebe.
Launched in June, the program offers a $300 rebate to homeowners, renters and small business owners for purchasing security equipment.
Eligible upgrades include security cameras, doorbell cameras, alarm systems, motion detectors, reinforced doors or windows, anti-graffiti film and paints, security gates, roll-down protection shutters and permanent security fencing. Any purchase made after September 1, 2023, is eligible to receive the rebate.
Applications are being received on a first-come, first-served basis and will be closed when the program reaches $2 million in applications.
