WINNIPEG — The Manitoba government has announced an additional $1.2 million in funding to support residents with rental assistance, resuming the paused Canada-Manitoba Housing Benefit (CMHB) program.

“We are providing these funds immediately to ensure this program can be accessible to those struggling and who need support with the rising cost of living,” said Housing, Addictions and Homelessness Minister Bernadette Smith.

This funding boost brings the total benefits for the year to $10.8 million, with 1,600 families and individuals already receiving assistance between October 2023 and June 2024.

The province says with the new funding, the program’s temporary pause has concluded and application intake has resumed. Applications received to date will be addressed first and additional families will benefit from the increase in funds until allocations of the new funds are exhausted.
