Winnipeg police rescued two women last week who were allegedly held against their will in a home in the western area of the city.
Officers responding to a wellness check on September 16 discovered the women, along with a significant cache of drugs, firearms, and signs of human trafficking.
During the search, police seized a large quantity of illicit substances, including methamphetamine, cocaine, fentanyl, and other drugs, with an estimated street value of $86,000. They also seized a sawed-off .22-calibre rifle, a Glock handgun, ammunition, and bear spray.
Police learned one of the victims had been manipulated through a dating app and was brought to Manitoba under false pretences. A second woman accompanied her to the city and was also victimized. Police say both victims were coerced into sex work and had their movements monitored.
Randy Norman Hamilton, 46, of Saskatchewan, has been charged with multiple offences. He remains in custody.
Both victims were transported to safety, and appropriate resources were provided to assist them by the Salvation Army and the Red Dress Team.
