The Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra has announced a four-year contract extension for music director Maestro Daniel Raiskin, securing his leadership through the 2028/29 season.
Raiskin, who has been with the WSO since 2018, is recognized for his global collaborations and innovative programming that connects with diverse audiences in Winnipeg.
“Daniel’s leadership and support of the WSO provide us with the artistic vision, exceptional musicianship as well as stability and continuity as we embrace the opportunities of the WSO’s future,” said WSO board chair Curt Vossen, in a release. “On behalf of the WSO I thank Maestro Raiskin for his contributions to the WSO and look forward to continued success.”
The WSO also extended contracts for composer-in-residence and Winnipeg New Music Festival co-curator Haralabos Stafylakis, and RBC assistant conductor Monica Chen, for two more years.
Additionally, the WSO appointed Simeon Rusnak as director of classical programming. A University of Manitoba graduate and former host at Winnipeg’s Classic 107, Rusnak says he looks forward to enhancing the orchestra’s role in Winnipeg’s arts community.
