Winnipeg police say a woman was arrested after she stole a large amount of money from the bank where she worked.

Police said they were told about a fraudulent incident at a bank in south Winnipeg in November, and started an investigation.

They discovered that between April and July of last year, a woman fraudulently stole about $27,000 of client money, which she then deposited into her own bank account.

The money has since been recovered, and the woman, 31, turned herself into police on Tuesday.

She faces two charges, including fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000.

She was released on a promise to appear.
