Manitoba Hydro and the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association have reached a new agreement aimed at speeding up energy connections for new home construction.
Under the changes, Manitoba Hydro now energizes homes within five days of passing final electrical and gas inspections.
The Crown corporation says the move is intended to reduce construction delays and support Manitoba’s growing housing needs while keeping rates affordable.
“These changes significantly speed up the completion of new-built homes,” said Allan Danroth, president and CEO of Manitoba Hydro. “We’re pleased to be part of this successful collaboration with MHBA, to the benefit of all Manitobans.”
Additional updates include earlier installation of basic utility infrastructure during construction, and a new online portal to improve scheduling and communication between Hydro staff and builders. The initial rollout covers Winnipeg, Selkirk, and Brandon.
