A woman is dead and several others are injured following a two-vehicle crash Monday evening near Virden, Manitoba.
RCMP say the collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 83 and Provincial Road 257 in the RM of Wallace-Woodworth. A westbound SUV with four occupants entered the highway from PR 257 and was struck on the rear driver’s side by a truck.
A 68-year-old woman from Quebec, a passenger in the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene. The 45-year-old female driver from Saskatchewan and two other Quebec passengers, aged 20 and 47, were hospitalized in stable condition.
The truck’s driver, a 31-year-old man from Plum Coulee, and two passengers from the RM of Stanley and Altona were not seriously hurt. A fourth passenger, a 19-year-old from Winkler, sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.
RCMP say alcohol was not a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
