A 15-year-old student is recovering after being attacked by a sword-wielding suspect in Brandon on Tuesday.

Police responded to Neelin High School after reports of a student armed with a sword.

The teen boy was seriously injured, suffering stab wounds to the chest, arms, hands, and leg. He was taken to hospital, where his condition has since been upgraded to stable.

Police Chief Tyler Bates said the school immediately went into lockdown. Officers arrived within minutes and used a Taser to safely arrest a 16-year-old male student, who is now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, uttering threats, and disguise with intent.

Bates noted the suspect is also a student at Neelin. The motive behind the attack is still under investigation.
