The Forks has unveiled plans to turn the long-closed Alexander Docks into a vibrant new public park along Winnipeg’s waterfront.
The $10.8-million project would replace the derelict site with gathering spaces, seating terraces, improved lighting, recreational access for both land and water users, and areas for reflection and ceremony. A new dock would accommodate canoes, kayaks, and waterbus service, connecting the area to the Exchange District.
Officials say the design preserves the existing memorial for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit people, adding a permanent arbour for gatherings. The plans follow years of public consultation and were developed by Scatliff + Miller + Murray and Narratives Inc.
“We are not just rebuilding a dock. This will be a new park that will restore beauty and joy to this part of the waterfront,” said Sara Stasiuk, president and CEO of The Forks. “This team is rebuilding a place for people, a lush urban oasis for everyone in our community to enjoy.”
The project aims to extend the active transportation pathway from Stephen Juba Park to South Point Douglas. Fundraising will be led by The Forks Foundation, with support from public and private partners.

Alexander Docks will become one of Winnipeg’s great riverfront parks — a place for everyone to gather, reflect and enjoy the water. The Forks has a strong record of developing and maintaining public spaces that are engaging and safe, and I’m confident they’ll do the same here. pic.twitter.com/w2OLEXunwM
