Winnipeg Mayor Scott Gillingham and Councillor Janice Lukes say extending late-night bus service will be a priority in the city’s 2026 budget process.
The pledge comes after feedback from riders and councillors who noted the city’s new primary transit network ends service too early for many shift workers and late-night commuters.
Transit riders have been vocal in recent months about gaps in the network since the city introduced its overhaul in the summer.
“From the start, we knew we would need to make adjustments to the network in response to rider feedback,” said Gillingham, in a release.
“We’ve already made some changes, and we’ll keep making more. Expanding late night service is the next big step forward.”
Coun. Lukes (Waverley West) said reliable late-night transit is essential for people who work or travel after hours.
The city has already committed $261.5 million to transit this year, including more than 100 new buses.
