Winnipeg police have arrested seven youths after a string of robberies and acts of vandalism at multiple businesses along McPhillips Street and Leila Avenue last Sunday.
Police say the group, ages 12 to 15, targeted several fast-food restaurants, retail stores, and a grocery store between early and late evening. Incidents included thefts of cash registers, assaults on employees, and property damage. In one case, a fire extinguisher was stolen and discharged in a parking lot; in another, pavement stones were thrown at store security. No serious injuries were reported.
Officers located the suspects at around 8 p.m. near Inkster Boulevard and McPhillips Street. Six were detained in custody, and one was released with a court appearance scheduled.
The youths face numerous charges, including robbery, theft, mischief, and disguise with intent. Winnipeg police continue to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact them at (204) 986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at (204) 786-TIPS.
