WINNIPEG — Manitoba Opera launches its 53rd season with Tosca, Puccini’s gripping tale of love, power, and political intrigue, running November 22, 26, and 28 at the Centennial Concert Hall.
The classic work, last staged by the company in 2010, is known for its intense drama and some of the most iconic music in opera.
Set in revolutionary Rome, the story follows famed singer Tosca as she becomes entangled in a deadly struggle to save her lover, Cavaradossi, from the corrupt police chief Scarpia. The opera features celebrated arias including Vissi d’arte, Recondita armonia, Te Deum, and E lucevan le stelle.
Soprano Marina Costa-Jackson makes her Canadian debut in the title role, joined by tenor David Pomeroy as Cavaradossi and baritone Gregory Dahl as Scarpia. The production is directed by Anna Theodosakis, with the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra conducted by Tyrone Paterson.
