Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew has closed out 2025 as Canada’s most approved provincial leader, according to new Angus Reid Institute data.
Kinew’s approval dipped 10 points since June, but he remains at the top of the national rankings as several other premiers struggle with declining public support. Ontario’s Doug Ford and Quebec’s François Legault continue to post the lowest approval levels in the country.

Kinew’s year-end standing comes as Manitoba enters a period of major policy activity. Last week marked the full launch of the Brady Road landfill search, a long-awaited effort to locate the remains of missing woman Ashlee Christine Shingoose — a commitment Kinew has described as essential to reconciliation and justice for affected families.
While Manitoba was not included on the federal government’s initial lists of designated “major projects,” Prime Minister Mark Carney and Kinew jointly announced that the Port of Churchill Plus initiative has been deemed a project of national interest. The plan aims to expand and diversify Manitoba’s trade opportunities with Europe and is considered a priority for both Ottawa and the province.
Elsewhere in Canada, public opinion appears largely unchanged amid the political standoff between Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and B.C. Premier David Eby over a disputed pipeline proposal, with both leaders seeing little movement in approval.
