A 16-year-old boy was arrested after a stolen vehicle collided with a Winnipeg transit bus on Friday.
Winnipeg police say K9 officers attempted to stop a 2014 Mazda 3 GT near Dufferin Avenue and Salter Street shortly before 10:30 a.m., but the driver fled. During the pursuit, the vehicle ran a stop sign at Andrews Street and Selkirk Avenue and struck the side of a transit bus.
The teen driver ran from the heavily damaged vehicle but was arrested after a brief foot pursuit. No injuries were reported.
A search of the Mazda uncovered a loaded .45-calibre Glock 21 handgun with an extended magazine and weapon light. Police say the firearm had an obliterated serial number. The vehicle was also confirmed to have been stolen earlier in the day.
Police have charged the youth with multiple offences, including theft of a motor vehicle, dangerous operation, flight from police, and several firearms-related charges. He remains in custody.
