RCMP are investigating two unrelated deaths reported on December 24, in the RM of Armstrong and in St. Malo.
Gimli RCMP were called at around 10 a.m. to conduct a well-being check at a rural residence near Narcisse in the RM of Armstrong. Officers arrived to find the home completely destroyed by fire. A neighbour told police a 69-year-old man lived alone at the residence.
Human remains were later found in the debris and are believed to be those of the homeowner. Police say the fire is not believed to be suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing.
Earlier that morning, St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP were dispatched to a residence in St. Malo after a report of an unresponsive woman. Officers located a deceased 55-year-old woman inside the home.
That death is considered suspicious and is being investigated by Mounties.
