The Forks is marking New Year’s Day with the official opening of the Nestaweya River Trail.
Officials say the skating trail will be ready for skaters on January 1 at 10 a.m. and join other trails that are already open to visitors.
The canopy rink and rink at CN Stage are open, as well as trails near the CN stage and upper trails on The Forks’ site.
As for the river skating trail, more than 900 metres have already been adopted by individuals, families and corporations at $50 each.
“The Forks and the river trail would not exist without the support of our community,” said Sara Stasiuk, president and CEO of The Forks.
“The Nestaweya River Trail brings a sense of magic and fun to Winnipeg’s winters. It takes a lot of effort every year to bring the trail to life, and we have our community to thank for it.”
Last year, the trail was open for 68 days and welcomed more than 200,000 users on two paths — one for skating, and one for walking, running and cycling.
