Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre is bringing “Holland” to the stage this winter — a heartfelt comedy that explores parenting, disability, and the power of community support.
Adapted by Winnipeg playwright Trish Cooper, the production follows parents Carrie and Paul as they navigate the challenges of caring for their son within a complex and often frustrating disability support system. The story draws on Cooper’s own experiences as a parent of a child with a disability.
“This play was inspired after a series of extremely frustrating moments, writing letters, signing petitions, writing letters, making calls, writing letters, applying for funding and all the things you do as a parent when you have a child with a disability,” says Cooper.
“Like the play, what started out as rage, frustration and a thirst for vengeance turned into gratitude for being in a community that cares. ”
Directed by Theatre Projects Manitoba artistic director Suzie Martin, the production examines how one family’s desperation leads to unexpected solidarity and compassion.
The cast includes Jessy Ardern, Daniel Bogart, Toby Hughes, Jennifer Lyon and Jane Testar.
Holland runs February 4 to 21, 2026, at the Tom Hendry Warehouse. Tickets and showtimes are available through Royal MTC’s box office at (204) 942-6537 or online at royalmtc.ca.
