A man wanted in connection with a fatal vehicle crash that killed Royal Canoe bassist Brendan Berg and his partner last summer has been arrested.

Winnipeg police officers arrested Matthew Govereau, 37, on February 14 in the city.

Berg, 42, and Olivia Michalczuk, 31, were sitting in their parked vehicle on the shoulder of Highway 10 near Swan River on July 1, 2025, when they were struck head-on by a driver who crossed the centre line heading in the opposite direction.

They were both transported to hospital, where they succumbed to their injuries.

Mounties had been seeking Govereau since late January in connection with the head-on crash which occurred near Road 224 North.

A 29-year-old man, who was a passenger in Govereau’s vehicle, was also transported to hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Govereau is facing several charges, including impaired driving, careless driving and drugs & weapons possession offences.
