Some Winnipeg police officers will begin wearing body cameras in the coming months as part of a pilot project.
Police Chief Gene Bowers told the Winnipeg Police Board on Friday that the test phase will include 40 officers being equipped with the technology starting in June.
City council has previously shared cost concerns with outfitting Winnipeg officers with body-worn cameras, but Bowers says the price has decreased in recent years.
The pilot project will be rolled out at no cost.
All Manitoba RCMP officers began wearing body cameras last year, while the Manitoba First Nations Police Service has deployed the technology to all of its 12 detachments.
