A 30-year-old man is in custody after Winnipeg police arrested four people who fled from a stolen vehicle in the Elmwood area on Wednesday evening.
Officers spotted a stolen 2011 Ford Mustang just after 8 p.m. near Talbot Avenue and Stadacona Street. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver fled at a high rate of speed.
Air 1 tracked the vehicle and directed ground officers to the area of Poplar Avenue and Levis Street, where the suspects abandoned the Mustang and ran.
Officers quickly surrounded the area and arrested the four occupants, including the driver, Roger Clint Genaille, 30. Police say two knives and a machete were found during his arrest.
Investigators allege Genaille is prohibited from driving in Canada and was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to comply with probation.
He faces several charges and remains in custody.
A 33-year-old woman, a 32-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man who were passengers in the vehicle were released without charges.
