A 17-year-old boy is in custody after allegedly assaulting a taxi driver and chasing him with a knife early Friday morning.

Winnipeg police say the incident happened at around 12:47 a.m. in a hotel parking lot in the 1300 block of Pembina Highway.

Investigators allege the youth approached a parked taxi and became involved in a verbal dispute with the 18-year-old driver before punching him through an open window. When the driver exited the vehicle, the suspect allegedly pulled out a large knife and chased him around the lot, attempting to stab him.
