The City of Winnipeg has renewed its contract with Main Street Project to continue providing 24/7 mobile outreach services for people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

The organization, which has delivered the service since April 2021, will remain on the frontlines offering support across both east and west areas of the Red River.

Outreach teams provide a range of services, including wellness checks, transportation to shelters and housing, and distributing essential supplies such as clothing, blankets and water.

Under the new contract, Main Street Project will also be required to follow the city’s encampment policy and provide regular data reporting, including quarterly counts of people experiencing homelessness in each service region.

City officials say the expanded reporting will help guide planning efforts and support collaboration with the province on homelessness strategies, while giving real-time insight into conditions on the ground.
