Transcona councillor Russ Wyatt is facing charges following a sexual assault investigation by Winnipeg police.
Police say they began investigating in February 2026 after receiving a report from an adult male. The complainant alleged he met another man through a social website in December 2025 and met with him on multiple occasions.
During one meeting at a residence in the city’s east end, the victim reported being given an illicit drug and sexually assaulted. He later sought medical attention.
Investigators arrested the 56-year-old Wyatt on Tuesday and charged him with sexual assault and administering a noxious substance.
He has since been released on an undertaking.
The charges haven’t been tested in court.
Wyatt was also accused of sexually assaulting a woman in 2018, but that charge was stayed a year later.
Mayor Scott Gillingham called the allegation serious and recommended Wyatt “step away to deal with this matter.”
“The Winnipeg Police Service and the justice system must be allowed to do their job and proceed without interference,” Gillingham said in a statement.
