A 42-year-old woman from Emerson is facing impaired driving charges after being found asleep behind the wheel on a rural roadway Monday night.

Officers with the Niverville RCMP responded at around 8:15 p.m. to a report of a vehicle stopped in the northbound lane of Provincial Road 200, just north of Provincial Road 305 in the RM of Ritchot.

Police say the vehicle was parked in the dark without its lights on, creating a traffic hazard. Two women were found asleep inside.

When officers woke the driver, they observed signs of impairment and arrested her. She was taken to the St. Pierre-Jolys RCMP detachment, where breath samples showed blood alcohol levels more than twice the legal limit.

The woman has been charged with impaired driving over 80 mg% and is scheduled to appear in court in Winnipeg on May 15, 2026. Her driver’s licence has been suspended and the vehicle impounded.

The investigation remains ongoing.
