The Manitoba government will spend $5 million to improve food quality in personal care homes across the province.

Premier Wab Kinew and Health, Seniors and Long-Term Care Minister Uzoma Asagwara announced the funding Thursday at a Linden Ridge PCH.

The funds aim to provide seniors with fresher meals, while enhancing nutrition, expanding meal options, and improving the overall dining experience for residents.

“Manitobans expect their loved ones to be treated with respect, and that includes the food they’re served every day,” said Kinew, in a release. “They built this province, and it’s our responsibility to take care of them with dignity and give them the quality of life they deserve.”

Funding will be distributed through service delivery organizations, with implementation details to be developed in collaboration with operators, care teams, and other stakeholders once the provincial budget is approved.
