Two 16-year-old boys are facing charges after allegedly pointing what turned out to be a toy gun at a motorist near Portage la Prairie.

Manitoba RCMP said officers responded at around 7:10 p.m. on Thursday to reports of a firearm being pointed at a moving vehicle on the Trans-Canada Highway near Highway 13.

Police allege the driver and passenger of a westbound vehicle pointed a green-coloured firearm multiple times at a female motorist.

Officers located the vehicle and conducted a high-risk traffic stop, temporarily halting traffic on the highway and stopping about 30 vehicles. The two suspects were taken into custody without incident.

Investigators later determined the firearms were toys.

Both teens, one from southwest of Winnipeg and the other from southwest of Portage la Prairie, have been charged with common nuisance – endangering life. They were released on undertakings.
