A couple from The Pas face criminal charges in connection with the death of a six-year-old girl who died in hospital in 2024 after sustaining serious injuries.

Manitoba RCMP received a report on October 29, 2024, that the child had been brought to hospital by a caregiver with serious injuries and bruising. She was airlifted to Winnipeg, where she died on November 3, 2024 from a traumatic head injury.

Investigators initially received a report she had fallen from her bed, but a subsequent investigation determined her injuries were the result of an assault the day before she was taken to hospital.

Ashley Morach, 39, has been charged with manslaughter, failure to provide the necessities of life, and two counts of obstructing justice. Joel Morach, 35, is charged with failure to provide the necessities of life. The couple was arrested in The Pas on April 14.
